Over-Supplementation

OVER-SUPPLEMENTATION

I met up with a girlfriend the other day at a coffee bar and she was limping! She told me that for two months she had agonising pain in her leg, thigh and hip, and had been advised to have steroidal injections and an X-ray in hospital, for which she had an appointment. She brought along the supplements she had been taking in this time for me to look at, and to check that they were ok.

In my opinion I felt she was taking too much Vitamin D that was in two separate bottles of supplements. I advised that she stop these two bottles that both contained this vitamin, and I would be most surprised if she did not see some difference in her symptoms. Whilst this is a very important and vital vitamin that many people are deficient in, I find that some people take very high amounts without checking that they need them at that dosage.

Three days later she contacted me to say the pain had virtually all gone, and soon after that she explained how excruciating the pain had been in this time. She is now fine.

Interestingly, in the space of a month, I came across someone else who I felt was taking too high an amount of a mineral, which inspired me to write this. This is an area that can quite often be missed when looking into a case history, but one I always keep an eye out for.

This second experience was someone who had been prescribed a high dosage of calcium by his doctor. I asked him if he had been tested to see whether he actually needed this amount, which he had not. He was reluctant to reduce the dosage which I feared would block my recommendations from working correctly, but I did want him to find out his level of calcium. This calcium supplement also contained the artificial sweetener, aspartame, which will have raised his cholesterol level.

Some while later he called to say that on checking his calcium level, the doctor also found him low in another mineral which worried him greatly. On re-testing this other mineral he did not take his calcium supplement, and the result was ‘normal.’ He then discovered, that through his diet he was actually having three times the amount of calcium he was prescribed! This will also have something to do with one of his health conditions.

Whilst many people are severely deficient in vital vitamins, minerals and trace elements, of which this there is no doubt, likewise we must be careful not to overdose on any of them. Mineral imbalances in the body can cause havoc, as well as affect the thyroid gland. Those that suffer Chronic Fatigue will invariably come to me with their supplements, but really, these can be at quite high dosages. You have to start very slowly on supplements if you have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue, and increase slowly once improvements are noticed. Otherwise you may just topple over.

It is so true that we are all unique to eachother and have entirely different health histories, therefore we cannot all cope with the same prescription.

Hair Juice For Hair Loss

Ingredients:

1 banana
1/2 cup spinach
1/2 cup watercress
2 kiwi fruits

*Omega 3 essential fatty acids in oily fish and flaxseeds - deficiency can lead to dry scalp and dull hair

Black Olive Tapenade

BLACK OLIVE TAPENADE: Black olives are rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants - great for eyes and hair, (rich source of iron and vitamin A) ~ anti-inflammatory and a great source of vitamin 'E' - together with garlic and olive oil this makes a very healthy dish!

Ingredients:

80g. pitted black olives
1 garlic clove, peeled
1 handful parsley minus stalks
2 anchovy fillets
1 tsp. capers
olive oil

Method:

~ Put everything into a food processor and whizz while adding about 3 tsp. olive oil.
Season and serve with toast ~

Zeolite

Some years ago, a clinical test revealed that a patient of mine had an exceptionally high level of lead, for which I prescribed Zeolite. Within just 4 weeks her lead level plummeted and she began to feel well again. More recently, I came across someone who suffered vaccination damage at the age of 14, leading to months of hospitalisation and the start of a stutter that he had not previously suffered. After taking Zeolite he made a full recovery and also the stutter disappeared.

I decided to see for myself why so many people report such well-being and immense energy when taking zeolite, so I recently started taking it. After just 4 days I noticed this immense clarity and clear-headedness, with a feeling of being 100% grounded. At first I wondered if it might be temporary, but now after 10 days the feeling has continued, and I am expecting yet further results as time goes on.

Zeolite is a natural and powerful mineral, formed from the fusion of volcanic lava and is used as a 100% natural detoxifier. It draws out toxins, heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, pesticides, etc. like a magnet. It helps to buffer the body PH to a healthy alkalinity as well as buffering blood sugar and excess glucose. Zeolite can reduce the symptoms of allergies, headaches and asthma, and is also anti-ageing.

They chemically mimic hormones and particularly dangerous to children - they can leach into our food through plastic wrapping, bottles and storage containers. There are many other sources of toxins but lastly I will mention mould and fungus, which few people consider, yet one in three people have had an allergic reaction to mould which can be found in contaminated buildings, peanuts, wheat, corn and alcoholic beverages.

It is early days yet, but I do notice feeling immense clarity, and look forward with tremendous excitement to significant ongoing changes. Zeolite has been widely used in Asia for the past 800 years and there is an increasing amount of research that confirms its benefits. However, as with all products you have to ensure the brand you buy is of high quality in order to attain maximum results. Do You Have Low Blood Sugar?

Keep a check on your blood sugar levels, not only to prevent diabetes, but also your emotions. When your blood sugar drops your emotions can be affected and result in severe-mood swings, making you argumentative, angry, irritable, depressed, intolerant and easily upset. Also, if you suffer allergies, rhinitis, headaches, etc. these can be brought on if you have not eaten for a few hours.

The symptoms below can be an indication of hypoglycaemia/low blood sugar:

Inability to concentrate
Confusion and irritability
Sweating, (almost always present)
Nervousness, shakiness and weakness
Extreme hunger and slight nausea
Dizziness and headache
Blurred vision
Fast heartbeat and feeling anxious
Slurred speech
Unsteadiness on standing or walking
Muscle twitching
Personality changes, such as anger or crying

Avoid sugar and fructose which is very often hidden in foods we are not aware of, particularly fruit juices and sugar in cereals. Limit alcohol, coffee, tea, chocolate and avoid canned, fizzy drinks altogether as well as artificial sweeteners.

It is important to regularly eat foods that include protein, complex carbohydrates, such as beans and pulses, goats cheese, oats, berries, buckwheat pasta, nuts. Make sure your minerals are balanced, paying particular importance to chromium levels, which helps to correct blood sugar and sweet cravings.

CONSTIPATION

A diet of fresh foods with life-force is your best insurance of good health, and preventative of illness...."bowels should go 2-3 times per day...otherwise it is constipation" (Dr. Bernard Jensen).

Why wait until illness and disease manifest before looking to correct it? Autointoxication is the outcome of an imbalanced diet and faulty bowel function - this combination can produce undesirable consequences in the body, and can be the root cause of illness.

Preventative medicine is of paramount importance to me, and the way I have lived my life for many years. In order to avoid the drug-route, I have ensured that my top priority is food, particularly good quality vegetables, and cooking everything from scratch. I understand how stress levels these days are high, and people have very little time, but it really doesn't take much time or effort to throw together fresh foods. In just a few minutes preparation time, even liquidising vegetables, pulses, stock powder together can make a nourishing soup.

Over the years people have consulted me with problems such as extreme constipation, or bowel activity once every 3 days or once every 4 weeks. Over a period of time this will inevitably result in a host of debilitating symptoms, if not serious disease. Once this is corrected, and there is an increase of bowel activity ideally to 2-3 times per day, the results can be astonishing, as well as a desired amount of weight-loss. This can be achieved by avoiding constipating foods, adding probiotics at the correct dosage and source, magnesium, correct fibre, (not all of them are), and especially vegetables. Other minerals may be involved, according to how much elimination of toxins is necessary.

Energy is always a good guage of health, but some people have got used to a low level of energy that they come consider normal. However, with proper elimination of toxins and bowel function, optimum higher energy levels and weight-loss, (if necessary), can result.

EGGS - What Chickens Are Fed

A short blog on eggs as a lot of people are not aware that the foods an animal/bird is fed can affect our health, hence one reason to only drink milk and eat meat from a grass-fed animal, not grain-fed.

I have made a number of enquiries to find out what foods chickens are fed, and whether their feed contained soya or corn. If you have seen me for a consultation, I expect you will remember how allergenic soya is, from the information I will have given you and what we will have discussed, but also soya and corn are genetically modified. It would seem that all the eggs sold in supermarkets have come from chickens fed on these grains, both of which are undesirable whether they are GMO or not. The only eggs I have come across that are fed organic wheat and no soya or corn, are Duchy eggs from Waitrose. If you suffer allergies then GMO foods are a problem because they exacerbate the condition. Inevitably mayonnaise would also come from chickens that have this diet.

Even organic eggs from Farmer's Markets, from the enquiries I have made, also come from chickens that are fed GMO-free soya and corn, and sometimes alfalfa, but there again it is still soya and it is still corn. Also, alfalfa does not suit everyone. These are the ingredients from one Farmer's Market....Organic Wheat, Organic Soya, Organic Alfalfa, Organic Peas, Calcium Carbonate, Organic Maize.

Eggs are one of the common allergens for babies and children, but perhaps it is not the eggs themselves, but the soya content in eggs that provokes eczema, acne and other health problems.

Please let me know of any other eggs on sale that are not fed on soya or corn, so I can share it.
